Mary Brassard Obituary

Mary Gail Ellertson Brassard passed away at home on January 2, 2022. She was born on September 15,1922 in Provo, Utah to Don Reed and Luceal Ellertson. She was their second child and was raised in Provo, graduating from Provo High School in 1940. She also attended the University of Utah for several years.

Following the death of her father, her mother moved the family to Salt Lake City in 1942 where both mother and Mary Gail were  employed at Hill Field Airforce Base. Later in life she was a journalist for Murray City Newspaper writing about current events.  She was president of the Salt Lake Council of Women and was instrumental in developing the International Peace gardens in Salt Lake City.  She also enjoyed a lifetime of service to family, friends and neighbors.

As a talented musician, Mary Gail loved barbership harmony and in 1948 she established the Sweet Adeline organization in Utah where she served as President. She created a quartette with her three sisters, Pat, Sue and Barbara and they sang together for many years entertaining Utahns on Television and in live performances.                     

Mary Gail was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

She is survived by her husband, Theodore Brassard and his daughter Joy Brassard, a brother, Don Reed Ellertson and wife Vivian, of Cypress, California, and two sisters, Patricia Ann Pedersen of Pahrump, Nevada and Barbara Dawn Hansen of
Salt Lake City, Utah, and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother Keith and his wife Gwen Ellertson, and her Sister, Sue Bridges.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022, at 11 AM at the Mount Olympus Ward, 4635 Lanark Road, Millcreek, UT.  A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:30 am.

Following the service, the burial will take place at the Provo City Cemetery.
