Phyllis Hopperstead Obituary

Phyllis A. Hopperstead of Park City, UT (previously Manchester, CT), passed away at age 89 on March 2, 2026, with family by her side. We are grateful that she lived a long, wonderful life with her high school sweetheart, Stan.

Phyllis was born July 14, 1936, in Milford, Delaware to Grace Rowe. She spent her early years in Bridgeville where she was a standout player on the Bridgeville High School girls’ basketball team. After graduating high school, she attended Milford Nursing School and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1955. On June 14, 1958, she married her high school sweetheart, Stan Hopperstead. They were married 67 years. Their marriage was an incredible love story filled with great love for their family, passion for their careers, and immense devotion to each other. After getting married, they lived in Elsmere, Delaware, and Phyllis worked as an RN at the nearby VA Hospital. They then moved to Manchester, Connecticut in 1963 where she started work at Manchester Memorial Hospital. While working and raising two daughters, Phyllis earned her Bachelor of Nursing at Central Connecticut State College.

Phyllis was an avid baker (amazing pound cakes and coffee cakes) and great cook, loved supporting her girls’ athletic endeavors, and enjoyed walks with her friends. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her grandchildren.

Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Stan and is survived by daughters Sherrie Bradway (Gary) and Shana Hopperstead (Ross DiCaprio), Granddaughters Megan Anthony and Jessica DiCaprio, Grandsons Todd Anthony (Kristen) and Ross DiCaprio Jr., and Great Grandsons Jack, Will and Brian Anthony. She is also survived by her sister Deborah Fleetwood and brother Ty Huskey (Glena).

A joint graveside service for both Phyllis and her husband Stan will be held in May at the Bridgeville Cemetery in Bridgeville, Delaware. During the service, we will have open time for anyone who would like to express their loving thoughts and memories of Phyllis and Stan.
