It is with great sadness that we share with you the news that Rex Dabling passed away on July 18, 2020. Born August 27, 1958 in Provo, UT; he was the youngest of 5 children born to Richard and Elaine Dabling. Rex was a man full of love for people and the outdoors. He was at his best when skiing, riding his beloved mountain e-bike, or his e-skateboard. His favorite places were Capitol Reef and Yosemite. As a civil engineer with a passion for art, Rex was a true renaissance man. Survived by his sons, Theo and Gabe; daughter, Lindsie Baird (Jacob) and their 5 children; and his siblings, Lynne Fox (Andy Bailey), Marrien Nielsen (Steve Feree), Barbara Chumbley (Jeff), and Brian Dabling. Rex was married for over 22 years to Julie Peck-Dabling. Although recently divorced, they were still close and cared deeply for each other. Preceded in death by his parents, and sis-in-law, Lori Dabling.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to offset family memorial expenses. You can do that through any Mountain America branch, by asking about the Rex Dabling Memorial fund. Another alternative is Venmo @juliannepeck-dabling. Rex also supported the First Step House in Salt Lake City. You can donate through their website at Firststephouse.org
Celebration of Life:
A service will be held at Rex’s church (a church that Rex literally helped to build), Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 East 3300 South, on Saturday, August 8 at noon. Because of the current health crisis there are limitations on group gatherings, we are asking that people register through the following link. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3KZM8Y7
Certainly, Rex was loved by his church family, men’s group and recovery family, ski friends, Yosemite-ites, and many in the construction profession. He deserves a full church to celebrate his life, but unfortunately, we are unable to do that safely. After receiving all the registrations, we will do a lottery to determine visitation and will inform folks by email and/or text.
Update as of 8/6/2020: Unfortunately, we recently discovered that we are not able to Livestream the memorial service as we'd hoped. However, the service will be recorded and the video will be available on ChristUMC Utah on YouTube. Look for it on Sunday, August 9th. You will also be able to find a link on the Christumcutah.org
Thanks for your understanding.
