December 6, 1933 – December 20, 2024
Richard C. Knudson passed away surrounded by family at his home in Holladay, UT on December 20, 2024. He was born December 6, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Earl J Knudson and Leona Bassett Knudson where he and his twin sister, were the youngest to two older brothers. He graduated from East High School and went on to graduate from the U of U.
Richard went on a mission to Brazil for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon his return he enlisted in The United States Air Force and served a tour in Korea. While stationed at Paine Field Air Force Base in Washington State, he met his future wife, Bonnie Thometz. The following year they were sealed in The Salt Lake City Temple.
After his service in the air force, Richard went on to have a 22-year career with Pan American World Airways.
A few years after retirement Richard and Bonnie were called to serve as mission presidents of the Brazil, Brasilia Mission from 1991 – 1994.
Richard was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed serving in many callings including working with the youth in scouting programs which he took immense pride in and serving at the Utah State Penitentiary as Gospel Doctrine Teacher.
Richard was an avid skier and loved playing golf and tennis. He was a hunter and had a love for the outdoors.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Charles and Jack, sister, Diane Edminster, daughter, Brook Ann, and daughter-in-law, Shannon Ross Knudson. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie and sons, Richard Matthew (Chantelle), Albert Earl (Tiffany), Von Thometz (Carla), John Bassett (Gabriela), 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A viewing for Richard will be on Friday, December 27th, 2024 from 6-8 PM at the Holladay 24th Ward building 4395 South Albright Drive, Holladay.
Services will be held at the Holladay 24th Ward 4395 South Albright Drive, Holladay at 10:00 AM with a viewing 30 minutes prior.
Interment at Brigham City Cemetery
