Robert Ross Balderas, age 78, passed away peacefully, at home, on August 25, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born on January 27, 1941 to Rhea Ross and Eduardo Balderas, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He graduated from South High and attended the University of Utah. He served a L.D.S. mission in Scotland, and later served in the Army Reserves, with an honorable discharge. He married the love of his life Joan Merrill Balderas, on June 28, 1965 in the Salt Lake temple. Together they raised three wonderful children, James, Stephen and Marianne.
He was very active, for many years, in the Boy Scouts and received many awards, including the Silver Beaver Award. He was a diehard University of Utah football fan, and loved going to games, but to him, the love and time spent with his family, was most important. He loved to be around children, especially in his later years, spending much of his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be deeply missed by all.
He is survived by his children, James (Deborah), Stephen (Hannah), Marianne Hoover (Kevin), Grandchildren: Arianna and Charlotte Anne Balderas, Brad Chandler, Shaelyn Morin (Tim), Great-grandchildren: Mina Chandler, and Gracie and Caleb Morin. Preceded in death by his parents Rhea Ross and Eduardo Balderas, his wife Joan Merril Balderas, his sister Marta Nancy Balderas, and nephew Craig Miller Balderas.
