Robert Harold Soper 1946 - 2024 West Valley City, Utah (78 years) passed away peacefully September 26,2024 with family present. Robert is a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew and friend to many. Robert was reunited with his parents, brother and many other relatives. We also feel he went home to his Savior. Robert Harold Soper was born in Murray, Utah April 26, 1946 to Robert Brower Soper and Eunice Mary Walbeck. He was their 1st born. He was followed by brothers, Dean and Kerry and a sister, Mary Ellen. He had a wonderful childhood living in Draper, Utah. There was a celebration each 24th of July in Draper. It was an all day event with a parade, horse pull, fun foods and kid rides. We were blessed to have Grandpa Walbeck or "Gramps" living next door. He taught us all many lessons about life. Especially our work ethic and how to grow tomatoes. We were also blessed to have our Soper grandparents who had a store on Draper crossroads. This store was a child's dream with toys, candy, cold pop, bikes and much more. We all loved to visit Grandma and Grandpa Soper. Rob would often ride his bike down there. He said, "Grandma would make me a cheese sandwich and sit and visit with me". Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations were often spent at our Soper grandparent's home. Dean remembers Rob playing the trumpet and playing Babe Ruth baseball. He got hit in the cheek with a softball during one of those games. A dear friend, Norm Forbush recalls he, Rob and David terrorizing their neighborhood with all kinds of schnanigans. They were only under ten years old. Norm and Rob remained good friends all of Rob's life. Robert graduated from Jordan high school in 1966. Rob served a full time mission to the Kentucky area. We went as a family to go and pick him up. It was wonderful to meet the people and see the area. Rob ran a food truck from Creasy He referred to himself as HIWAY ROB! He enjoyed this job and loved his customers. Rob was married twice before - both ended in divorce. 2 children were born from these marriages. The first was Heather, who has a daughter, Haven. The second was Jared. When he met Rachael, he said he'd found his Rachael (like Rachael in the bible) They have been happily married for many years. With Rachael came 3 children, Alison, Jeremiah and Gregory. Rob has helped raise them. He loved them very much. Rachael says Robert (she always called him that) loved the mountains. When they were first married they would go hiking or to see holiday lights. They dated in the temple weekly and loved being there.
He liked the Tabernacle choir and singing hymns on Sundays. She said they simply loved being together, watching tv or just hanging out in the living room. Rachael also said that Robert loved life. I, his baby sister, would agree with that. I've always felt uplifted and joyful around Rob. He has an amazing and enlightened soul. Rob was an active member of the church of Jesus Christ. He had a very strong testimony and loved to share it. The thing that really brought a sparkle to his countenance was when he spoke of Christ. He loved him, always. For many years, Rob prepared taxes for people out of his home. He also built computers for people. Rob and Gregory had a job years ago picking up newspapers and delivering them to the different stands around the valley. In current years, Rob worked as customer service on the phone, often from home, for a company he enjoyed. He loved the comradarie with his customers. They became his friends. Robert is survived by his wife, Rachael, daughter Alison, son, Gregory, son Jeremiah, daughter Heather, son, Jared, brother, Dean (Shelley) sister, Mary Ellen (Tony) granddaughter, Haven. Aunt (Penny) Many nieces and nephews and cousins and others. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother.
