Roger Weston Upwall died September 11, 2023, at the age of 87. He was born November 12, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the fourth child of Norman Benedict Upwall and Chloe May Winger Upwall.
He graduated from East High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years in California, Japan, and Okinawa. He served an LDS church mission to Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
He attained a Bachelor of Science from Weber State College and Utah State University. He earned a Master's Degree from BYU. He also earned an additional 60 hours of college credit.
He taught 32 years of wood shop at Churchhill Junior High school he retired June 1997.
He married Cleo Christine Trowbridge in the Salt Lake temple on August 16, 1961. They have two children, Troy and Tiffany, and four grandchildren: Jayden, Jordan, Brennan, and Paige.
Since high school he guided river trips every summer. He guided trips on the majority of the rivers in the western U.S. and Canada. Over 75 trips down the Grand Canyon, Colorado River.
His hobbies include fishing, hiking, skiing, gardening, river trips, traveling, and building walnut furniture in his well-equipped shop.
His travels include China, Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Okinawa, Japan, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Panama Canal, Caribbean islands, Italy, Greece, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and most of the United States. Foreign river trips included the Nile River in Egypt, Yangtze River in China twice, and Futaleufu River in Chile twice.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 18, 2023, At the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3101 S 2300 E, Millcreek, Utah. A visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park
