Susan Jolene Griffing

In loving memory

Our dear mother, Susan Jolene Griffing (Reiff) passed away June 18th, 2022 at the age of 70. She will be remembered by her loving daughters, Alicia Griffing and Amanda Freshman (Alex), granddaughter, Emily Freshman, as well as her sisters, Tracy Trout (Kevin) and Carla Shoemaker, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Reiff, husband, Clyde Griffing Jr., and her daughter, Sarah Griffing.

Susan was born in Naples, Texas in 1952. Shortly after, her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she lived for the rest of her life. She taught elementary school for a short period of time before moving on to her position as a Disability Claims Examiner for the State of Utah, which she held for about four decades. She also continued her service with children as a preschool teacher at Christ United Methodist Church for many years.

Susan had a wonderful sense of humor. She had a contagious laugh, and shared it often. She was kind, gentle, and considerate of others. She never wanted to be a bother to anyone. She fought her battles quietly and was incredibly strong, brave, and determined, but also humble. She loved her daughters, her pride and joy, though we gave her grey hairs. She will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held on June 29th at 1:00 pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 E. 3300 S. SLC, UT. Interment and graveside service will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery afterward. The family requests that you share your favorite memory of Sue, so that they can be compiled in a memory book and treasured.
