Gary Findlay, age 79, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 26th, 2015.
Gary was born on November 22nd, 1935 to Ralph and Lillian Findlay in Bloomington, Idaho. He spent his early life working the ranch in Bloomington and later moved to Salt Lake City. He married Elva Guymon Jones on June 12th, 1967 and immediately became a loving father to her two children. Not long after, their family grew, adding 4 more children.
Gary was involved with numerous organizations after serving an LDS mission in the Western Central States mission. He served 32 years in the Utah Air National Guard, retiring as Chief Master Sergeant. He served for over 60 years with the Boy Scouts of America in numerous positions, being a Silver Beaver recipient. He was the Utah Commissioner of Clan Farquharson USA, and active member of mobile neighborhood watch and had many callings in the LDS church.
Gary had a passion for genealogy, family reunions, camping, going to the ranch in Bloomington, and making friends with everyone he met. He had a gift, and has touched the hearts of many with his selfless acts of kindness. He was considered a source of strength, love, and support to his family, always believing that it was best to keep peace. All of his family adored him.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 4 sisters; wife Elva and oldest daughter Deborah Jones Kenney. He is survived by his brothers Eugene and Delano; his children Jerry (Linda) Jones, Denise (Roger) Ekblad, Kathleen (Mike) Lamborn, Carolyn (Andy) Werrett, Michael (Teri) Findlay; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 1st, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Edgehill LDS Ward, 1750 S 1500 E, Salt Lake City. Viewing will be held Tuesday evening, June 30th, at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, from 6-8 pm, and at the church Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the service.
