Tanner James Schouten passed away May 11, 2016, in Sandy, Utah. He was born August 3, 1995 in Hayward, California, to Barry James and Jeannie Claire Hales Schouten. In August 1996, Tanner’s father passed away. Tanner’s life was blessed two years later when his mother married a wonderful man, Marcelo Del Rio Jr., who helped raise him for the next 18 years.
Tanner and his family moved to Sandy in 2001. He graduated with honors from Jordan High School in 2013, and was currently attending Salt Lake Community College where he was studying computer technology. Tanner was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and an Eagle Scout. He loved rock and roll, especially Queen, Goo Goo Dolls, AC/DC, Guns-n-Roses, and was an avid concert goer. Tanner had a sense of fashion all his own. His white suit and gold leather jacket were his favorites.
Tanner is survived by his parents, sisters, Lindsey and Analisa, brothers, Marcelo III and Christopher, grandmother, Maurine Schouten, grandfather, Marcelo Del Rio Sr., his dog Max, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins who love him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, Keith and Jerrie Hales, grandfather, Fred Schouten, uncles, Brady Hales, Kyle Schouten and Paul Cowles, and cousin, Ryan Hales.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Falcon Hill Ward, 2126 East Gyrfalcon Drive, Sandy, Utah. Friends and family may visit Friday evening, May 20, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, as well as at the church Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, Sandy, Utah. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Tanner’s name.
